Beesley’s Point Development Group (BPDG) will be hosting a “Say Goodbye to the Stack” event in honor of the infamous smokestack at the former BL England power plant on Saturday October 21st from 10:00am-12:00pm.
The purpose of the event is to reflect on the site's history, point out some unique areas of the property, as well as “decorate” the Stack with the artistic talents of Upper Township and Cape May County! Please come prepared with large markers or spray paint to make your mark before the October 26th implosion event. Want to take a “Selfie with the Stack”? Have at it! Light snacks and drinks will be provided.
Various speakers are planned as well as anyone who has a story to share about the former plant is welcome to speak. Time will be devoted to Upper Township’s children and how BPDG intends to integrate site redevelopment in the advancement of Arts, Science, Outdoor Activity, Sports, and Nature Based exploration, learning and creativity.
The biodiversity of the site offers for exceptional learning, environment, and the ability to immerse our children in the sciences. Several programs are being planned that will elevate the learning experience at all grade levels.
“Say Goodbye to the Stack” is also a fundraising event for two local organizations; Upper Township’s Jr. High as well as the Heritage Homestead Day program. Goal is to raise money to purchase a potter's wheel and kiln for the Jr. High school as well as donate to all the exciting projects within Heritage Homestead. Will the first piece of art off the kiln be a “Replica Stack”? We certainly hope so! Donations will be accepted at the event and very much appreciated, though are not required for entrance.
BPDG also understands the overwhelming interest in “what’s next” for the site. While we look forward to conversation, ideas and input from the community, the event will be focused on the significant transformation of the site as well as saying goodbye to a community landmark.
